Chapter 6:

Two weeks later, the members of Sector V stood silently in the lounge area, large suitcases littered around them.

Wally did not know what to do. His parents had been told he had been accepted to a foreign – they had already assumed he knew where – boarding school. They had even had a talk with the Headmaster, who had seemed more than happy to accept Wally as a new student.

He stood, looking at the tree house, and the people he had known since starting school with great sadness.

Numbuh 2 broke the awkward silence.

“Where do you think we’re all going?”

Numbuh 5 answered, sighing.

“I don’t know. How long do ya’ll think we’ll be away?”

Silence.

Wally supposed around two or three months, because that’s a school term’s general length.

Suddenly, the silent Numbuh 3 stamped her foot.

“IT’S NOT FAIR!”

The rest of Sector V stared at Kuki. Her hair was on end, and an inferno danced in her eyes.

Then, just as suddenly, she dropped to the floor. Wally felt Kuki’s sobs before he heard them, and rushed to her side, where her shoulders were shaking with the force of her grief-wracked crying.

And as he closed his arms around her, and the rest of the Sector followed suit, he was surprised to find tears trailing down his own cheeks too.

Unheard by the weeping Sector V, four travel pods landed in the eating area. As Numbuhs 25 and 34 stepped out of one, and 712, 888 and 246 exited the others, they winced at the noise.

They hated to be the ‘cause’ of their pain.

Numbuh 246, hidden eyes brimming with salty tears, squared her shoulders, clenched her teeth, and strode purposefully towards the lounge area.

Upon entering, it took all her willpower not to breakdown and join the group cry, because Sector V were clinging to each other so tightly, bawling their hearts out.

Taking a deep breath, she – a little shakily – said, “Are you ready?”

Sector V looked at her in surprise.

But, like it or not, she knew they unfortunately were.
